You, Me and the World
The world wrestles me, breaks my wings,
drowns me in frightening, dark oceans —
I only remember you.
I struggle desperately and subdue her. She raises her hands in surrender, releases
birds of happiness and crowns me with floral wreaths —
but I only remember you.
And when she pacifies me, forced, with a heart that beats for a warm love —
a love that almost resembles yours —
where only I remember you.
Every time the oud echoes the sound of our defeated world,
I hear only our sighs —
and I only remember you.
Now I am here in a strange world so far away from the one we created,
a world that keeps battling me so that, forgetting, I battle it back —
as when I only remember you.
